Policemen attached to Ikotun Police Station in Lagos State, have extorted N10,000 off Preciousgift Aguamba, a resident who reported a domestic violence case to them on Saturday.
Aguamba filed an official complaint against 47-year-old Kelvin Nwabueze, her ex-lover and father of her child whom she accused of strangling and battering her on Friday night.
Before going to the police, she narrated to FIJ how Nwabueze visited her house to see their child. She said things got heated when she told him to take with him a bag which he had been keeping in her place.
“I told him I would throw it out if he did not take it, and then he dared me to do so,” Aguamba narrated.
“My friend was there with me, and she witnessed the whole thing.
“Nwabueze charged at me and began strangling my neck. He then began hitting me in the presence of my friend.”

After speaking with FIJ, she approached the police to file an official complaint.
”They did not even take his house address from me,” Aguamba told FIJ on Sunday.
“They collected N10,000 from me and his phone numbers. There, they called him multiple times but he did not pick. Then they said they would keep calling until he picks.”
FIJ called Nwabueze on Sunday but he did not take our calls. Benjamin Hundeyin, Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, did not take FIJ’s calls either.
FIJ also reported the matter to the Police Complaints Response Unit, and they promised to look into the matter.
