Timileyin Ajayi, who confessed to killing Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of the 24-year-old.

Ajayi appeared before Justice Simon Aboki on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the culpable homicide charge.

He is being arraigned at the High Court of Justice, Lafia, the capital of Nassarawa, for culpable homicide punishable by death according to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.

Ajayi was found with Adaidu’s severed head and dismembered body parts on January 12, while he was trying to dispose them off.

In an interview with Channels TV, he admitted to the crime and said he did not regret his actions as the victim had cheated on him in their romantic relationship.

He said he lured her into his bathroom after she visited him at his house and killed her with a knife.

“I caught her cheating on me. I brought it to her awareness that she was cheating, but she refused to accept until I showed her the chats and showed her what she did before she admitted it. And she said she was sorry it was not going to happen again,” he said in the interview.

“I asked her to go to the bathroom, and she started some things. I could not take it lightly. I went to the room and took the knife from the restroom. I held her neck and did what I had to do. When she died, nothing really happened. I only took some part of the knife. I was not caught [by the police]. I surrendered myself.”

FIJ also reported how Ajayi’s neighbours and Adaidu’s relatives claimed that this was not the killer’s first murder.
