A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a N500 million bail to Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, on Friday.

Bello was on trial for a 16-count charge of fraud to the tune of N80 billion.

While presiding over the court session on Friday, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered that Bello must produce two sureties in like sum.

The two sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and must be owners of properties in Abuja.

Also, the title documents of the properties, which must be in Abuja, will be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

In addition, Bello must deposit his international passport with the court, while he and his two sureties are also to deposit two recent passport photographs.

The judge also ruled that the former governor be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

Prior to Friday’s hearing, Bello had pleaded not guilty to the alleged N80 billion fraud levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was first denied bail on December 10.
