Eucharia Agbasimalo, the wife of Obiora Agbasimalo, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election, has said the entire world has moved on from the missing politician’s family as they seek to find answers.
While speaking with FIJ on Tuesday evening, Agbasimalo said relevant agencies and institutions that are supposed to help unravel the mystery behind her husband’s disappearance have since stopped doing so.
“I feel that the world has moved on from us now. Nothing is going on, nothing is happening. It is all activity, upon activity [sic]. There is really nothing, absolutely,” said Agbasimalo.
“People are no longer doing anything to ensure my husband is found.”
The governorship aspirant’s wife also added that the Truth and Justice Commission, set up in 2023 by Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo to look into the circumstances that surrounded the politician’s disappearance, did not at any time reach out to her on its findings or resolution.

“I was invited alongside my husband’s kinsmen and community leaders to the commission, and what everyone present at the gathering did was just narrate stories upon stories. No concrete resolution was reached,” said Agbasimalo.
“Around that time, the matter had also been reported at the DSS office. The police also told us they were carrying out an investigation on the matter as well.
“The matter was also taken to court by the DPP’s office in Anambra State, and the two persons who were arrested have been making appearances ever since.
“In 2024, I wrote to the Comptroller General of prisons in Abuja, lamenting the VIP treatment that was being given to the supposed suspects who were meant to be on trial.
“They looked nothing like anybody in custody. They would also come to court looking very flamboyant.
“They walked about without handcuffs or anything. From time to time, they would also beckon to food vendors, who displayed their wares around the court premises, buying anything they liked.

“They lived normally and chatted gleefully with their family members.
“They sometimes look at me and boast to my face [sic] that I won’t get anything fruitful on the matter. They also, most times, say it to my face that I was just wasting my time. It was very heartbreaking.
“After leaving the Truth and Justice Commission, nobody reached out to officially do any follow-up.
“No feedback was received from anyone whatsoever.
“Presently, it’s still just me, running from here to there, so I can get to the root of the events that led to my husband’s disappearance, and for the people responsible to be brought to book.”
Agbasimalo also criticised the leadership of the Labour Party “for not doing enough” in getting to the root of her husband’s disappearance.
“As of today, the leadership of the party is yet to come out and tell everyone what they have found, as far as the disappearance of my husband is concerned,” said the missing candidate’s wife.
“Is it not strange that a governorship candidate has been missing for four years and, to date, no one has come out to give an update on the matter?

“Another general election is upon us and, to date, no one has been able to come up with anything tangible for me. It is very difficult to believe that this actually happened. Very strange.
“It is looking like a careful and calculated attempt aimed at keeping me in the dark, and to just make me continue to wander from one dead end to another dead end.
“If the Anambra State Government, the DSS and the police are still unable to find out what happened to a governorship candidate, what is the hope of the common man? It has been four years since the incident happened!
“Is the Labour Party now saying, in all sincerity, that it is comfortable with still not knowing the whereabouts of one of its own?
“Funny enough, they will still flag another human being to run on that platform, come the next election.
“Are they saying, in all sincerity, that they don’t know what happened? Are they saying my husband just vanished into thin air? And they all can go to bed every night, wake up, eat whatever they want, and actively campaign for relevant posts in government?
“We are talking about a full-grown human being; somebody’s husband, somebody’s father; somebody’s child.
“Nobody is doing any follow-up on us, his family members, anymore. They are only focused on the next candidate or aspirant they want to see vie for the governorship office. They are actively running their politics, despite my husband still not being found.
“I have been floating for the last four years. Where do I find justice?”
In February 2022, FIJ reported how Obiora Agbasimalo, Eucharia’s husband, disappeared on September 18, 2021.
Before joining politics, 40-year-old Obiora was a senior staff member at Zenith Bank PLC.

He worked with the bank for more than 10 years.
Obiora went missing while on a governorship campaign tour of Azhia, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, on September 18, 2021.
Moments before his disappearance, the driver of his car had taken a sudden detour from the line of vehicles that made up the campaign procession.
Since then, Agbasimalo has been missing, and no one has been able to find him.
When FIJ contacted Julius Abure, the Labour Party chairman, at the time the politician disappeared, he said in his response that he believed he had “done his best on the matter”.
