The National Assembly website uploaded a church manual as its January 1, 1970 senate proceeding document.
What FIJ first found surprising on the Resources dropdown that leads to the ‘Votes and Proceedings’ subs-page on the National Assembly website was that a senate proceeding document dated ‘January 1, 1970’, a time when the country was still ravaged by its bloody civil war, could even be found on the website in the first place.

The two suspicious senate proceeding documents were listed as a document of the 9th assembly translating to even more error.
A peek into the first two documents revealed that two misplaced ‘New Phase of WSF (Part 1)’ documents were there instead of actual senate proceedings and votes passed in the national assembly.
The National Assembly website does not only serve the purpose of documenting and archiving for members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, but it also allows Nigerians to follow and see through the activities of their lawmakers, and cases such as this only put a dagger to citizen’s trust in the government’s efficiency.
The National Assembly, amongst other management departments, has a directorate of research and information, headed by Rahmatul Ahmad, whose purview is the management of its website.
In the 2024 budget, N197.9 billion was allocated for National Assembly personnel alone.

Regardless of what could have caused this, the appearance of inappropriate documents on a national website reflects poorly on information management.
This also contradicts the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) guidelines. Section 3.1 of the guidelines clearly states:
“The Internet is becoming a preferred means of accessing Government information and services. Therefore, Government Institutions through their websites must make sure that information provided is current and updated at least weekly.”
