Abigail Dosumu (not real name), a Lagos State resident, has detailed how PalmCredit, a Nigeria-based money lending platform owned by Newedge Finance Limited, held on to the N99,087 loan repayment she made.
Speaking with FIJ, Dosumu said she made the N99,087 repayment to PalmCredit on October 13.
“After I made the repayment via my Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account to PalmCredit’s Zenith Bank account number 1192259043 on October 13, 2024, the money lending outfit’s officials reached out to me with a claim that they had not received the money I transferred,” Dosumu explained.
“I then forwarded my payment receipt to them to show that I had indeed made the repayment.

“Despite this, the money lending company did not make any attempt to clear the outstanding loan from the loan dashboard I have with them. This then meant that they were still holding on to the fact that I owed them despite showing them the receipt.

“I later liaised with GTB, my bank, and when my complaint was thoroughly investigated, it was confirmed that the money was indeed in PalmCredit’s position.
“I then again wrote to PalmCredit, letting them know that it had been confirmed that the N99,087 was in their position but they did not respond to me.”

While this went on, PalmCredit’s loan recovery agents started sending threatening messages to Dosumu, demanding that she make another fresh repayment or risk being defamed.
“When I received the threat messages, I became frightened. This then simply meant that PalmCredit was forcing me to make a double repayment for a singular loan I obtained from me,” said Dosumu.
“One of the threat messages I received read that the contacts of the notable people I have in my life had been copied via my Gmail, insinuating that they would use that to defame me.
“This then got me rattled and I had to quickly make a second repayment to PalmCredit on October 18, 2024. Interestingly, while I was trying to get the money lending outfit to ensure that the N99,087 reflect on its end, its officials made sure that the outstanding debt I was supposedly owing continued to accrue interests.

“In the end, I was forced to make a fresh N103,054 repayment from my Wema Bank account to a Moniepoint account used by PalmCredit.
“To date, PalmCredit has not done anything to refund my N99,087 to me. It has been more than three months since I sent the money to them and they have refused to send it back to me.
FIJ sent an email to PalmCredit on Wednesday, requesting to know why Dosumu’s first repayment had not been refunded to her. PalmCredit had not responded at press time.
