An Abuja-based payment system specialist, who simply wishes to identify as Jatto, has narrated to FIJ how Dana Air, a now-suspended airline, failed to make a refund of N247,637 to his family after cancelling their flight.

This is nine months after their flights were cancelled.

Speaking with FIJ on Friday, Jatto said that she was to travel from Lagos to Abuja on April 28 with her husband and son.

She explained that after paying for their tickets on April 21, they received an email stating that their flights had been cancelled due to operational reasons.

She added that they had to use another airline to arrive at their destination.

“We did not use our tickets as we were supposed to have flown the day after that incident of an almost near-place (sic) crash in Lagos where they went off the runway,” Jatto told FIJ.

“When we heard of it, we just didn’t fly anymore and decided to use another airline. Also, Dana Air had sent us an email saying that they had cancelled our fights due to operational reasons,” Jatto added.

“We went for another airline and have not received a refund from Dana Air since then.”

On Friday, FIJ sent WhatsApp and text messages to Kingsley Ezenwa, the spokesperson of Dana Air, for a reaction, but he was yet to respond at press time.

When Ezenwa spoke with FIJ in September, he said that every ticket would be refunded as they were still returning people’s money to them.

“Like I mentioned earlier, every ticket must be verified before payment or refund is made and that process is still ongoing. Nothing has changed. Every ticket will be refunded,” Ezenwa told FIJ.

Meanwhile, Dana Air had also missed a two-week ultimatum issued to it by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in August to clear its customer refund backlog. This was after its operational licence was suspended by the same agency.

However, FIJ continues to receive complaints from disgruntled passengers about the same airline.
