A group of gun-wielding terrorists stormed the Gidan Baushe community in the Kankara local government area of Katsina State on Thursday evening, shooting and sending residents scampering for safety, but they eventually suffered casualties.
Videos seen by FIJ show the attackers running through the community and firing sporadically.
Sources in Katsina confirmed the incident, saying the terrorists managed to take some residents as hostages on their way out.
These sources also said the state’s Community Watch Corps (CWC) resisted the attack and managed to kill some of the bandits.
“The terrorists notified the community of an impending attack, but nothing was done,” a resident told FIJ on condition of anonymity. “It is not the first time attacks like this have happened. They [terrorists] come, abduct people and then demand ransom.”

Eons Intelligence, a risk consulting, security outfit, and intelligence gathering organisation, credited the Babaro gang with the attack and said the CWC neutralised 16 of them.
Via X, Eons posted, “Available report indicates that the CWC operatives pursued the Babaro gang to the outskirts, where they succeeded in neutralizing 16 members of the gang. Several other bandits managed to escape, some bearing gunshot wounds, as they fled the scene. This development is part of the ongoing effort by local security forces to curb banditry in Katsina State.”
Terror attacks like this one have occurred on multiple occasions. Recently, terrorists abducted an Imam and 100 others in Zamfara State.
Similarly, terrorists demanded money from Niger State farmers to allow them to harvest their produce. This situation sparked controversies and drew conflicting claims from the defence headquarters and the Niger State Government.
