PalmCredit has returned a N99,087 excess loan repayment to Abigail Dosumu*, one of its customers.
This came after FIJ reported how the money lending company held on to the funds for more than three months, making her pay a fresh sum just to clear her debt.
“PalmCredit has returned the N99,087 to my Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account on Thursday evening,” Dosumu told FIJ in a telephone conversation on Friday evening.

“After I reported the matter to you on Wednesday, I received a call from a GTB official on Thursday.
“He said the N99,087 had been returned by PalmCredit and that I should check my account.
“When I checked, I saw that the sum had indeed been paid into my account. Thank you so much for helping me get my money back. I am grateful.
“PalmCredit had been ignoring my request since October 2024 till you stepped in. The refund I have been chasing for three months finally got paid to me within 24 hours with your help. Thank you once again.”

On Thursday, FIJ reported how Dosumu made the N99,087 repayment to PalmCredit on October 13.
After making the loan repayment, the money lending outfit’s officials reached out to her to claim they had not received it. She then forwarded her evidence of payment to them, but they still said the money had not been received. While PalmCredit insisted it had not received the sum, Dosumu’s loan kept accruing interest on its loan dashboard.
In a bid to trace the money’s whereabouts, Dosumu liaised with her bank and it was confirmed that the money was indeed in PalmCredit’s possession. The customer communicated same message to PalmCredit but she was ignored.

Subsequently, PalmCredit’s loan recovery agents started sending threatening messages to Dosumu, demanding that she make another repayment or risk being defamed.
The messages frightened her and she was forced to make a fresh repayment of N103,054 to PalmCredit on October 18, 2024. The second repayment she made came with accrued interest because PalmCredit had not cleared her debt from its loan dashboard.
After receiving the N103,054, PalmCredit continued to deny ever receiving the initial N99,087 Dosumu paid. This then forced her to turn to FIJ for help.
