Ibom Air has refunded N466,050 to E. K. Gwuru (pseudonym), the Abuja-based businessman whose funds the airline had been holding on to after a flight cancellation.
Gwuru told FIJ that Ibom Air refunded him on Saturday, just hours after FIJ released a report detailing how the airline had dragged its heels over his refund.
He said he was surprised that the money, which he had been requesting since December, was refunded to him on a Saturday.
“If not for the prompt intervention of FIJ, Ibom Air would have held my refund in perpetuity,” Gwuru. “I was surprised that they sent me emails immediately after the report was released and refunded me on a Saturday. Thank you so much.”

Gwuru’s now-resolved issue began after he cancelled the flight he had booked for himself, his wife, and their two kids following what he described as a ridiculous ultimatum from the airline.
An email from Ibom Air to the source
He said he had booked a one-way flight for his family from Abuja to Port Harcourt in October 2024 but later changed the trip to Port Harcourt–Abuja and paid an additional N20,000.

After making the payment, their itinerary did not change. He later learnt that this was due to a network glitch. However, the airline told him to pay another N20,000 while they refunded the first one. He refused.
The next email Gwuru received from Ibom Air contained an ultimatum. The airline said he had until the following day to make another payment of N20,000. Gwuru said this infuriated him, prompting him to request a full refund.
Ibom Air paid the first N20,000 on December 8 and promised to pay the rest, with a 25 per cent deduction, on January 8. However, they did not pay until FIJ intervened.
