First Bank has refunded N100,000 to Monica Ukpabi, a Delta State resident, after an erroneous data purchase which Glo, her network service provider, had already reversed.
Ukpabi informed FIJ of the refund on Monday.
This refund came three days after FIJ published a report detailing Ukpabi’s experience with a First Bank branch in Asaba, where she was told to forget about the money.

“They have refunded the money. My bank app has been slow so I used my ATM card to check my balance on a POS machine and I saw that the money as been reversed. I am the happiest person today,” Ukpabi told FIJ on Monday.
On October 24, Ukpabi mistakenly recharged N100,000 on her Glo phone number for data purchase. Realising this, she visited a Glo office to plead with them to restrict her phone number. Glo obliged and reversed the recharge the following day.

The Delta resident then went to a First Bank branch in Asaba to initiate a reversal process. She also emailed the bank. Anytime she went, the bank would ask her to return on another day.
This, she did until Friday when the manager of the branch she visited told her to forget about the money while claiming that a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directive had instructed commercial banks not to resolve such complaints.
Ukpabi was deeply bothered about this. However, this changed when First Bank refunded her two days after FIJ’s publication.
